What Is A Short Spring Twist Hairstyle?
At first, I thought the spring twist might have something to do with the spring season. But I was wrong!
I think you have all heard of the famous traditional Senegalese twist aka rope twists. The spring twists are just a variation of that hairstyle but with a “springy” texture like its name.
The playful quality of the spring-like hair that bounces with just a bit of tug is my favorite part about the hairstyle.
Short spring twist hairstyles are just spring twists done on short hair like this one.
This lightweight natural looking twist hairstyle sometimes can get mixed with passion twists. But I assure you they are quite different in both their texture.
Spring twisted hair has a bouncier coil and tighter curl pattern than passion twist. Spring twist hair is made with pre-twisted hair while passion one is made with pre-curled hair. Hence they are both distinctive in their own way.
Stunning Short Spring Twist Hairstyles For Women
Slaying in a short spring twist hairstyle is easy and effortless. The number of compliments I got after incorporating one was unbelievable. And I didn’t even have to work for it.
So I won’t make you wait any longer. Let’s jump right into it.
Get It Pulled Up
When I do short spring twists on my hair I usually do the one that gets pulled up to have a springier effect.
Making smaller sections for this hairstyle creates an illusion of voluminous hair. It’s the perfect hairdo for your small hair to turn into a fabulous look.
I love the fact that I can go on for days dressing up in any aesthetic with this hairdo. Embracing my natural hair becomes easier with this hairstyle.
I mostly adore the easy and preppy look. In my opinion, to keep your natural health this is the hairstyle to go for.
I can assure you with minimal to no styling you will get a statement look in no time.
Ariana Grande Pony But With A Short Spring Twist
Short spring twists in a high pony get me easily prepped up for a day out. I feel confident and ready to take on any challenge with energy through the springiness of my ponytail.
I enjoy having my twists on an Ariana Grande ponytail as it gives a cool breezy look. I use colorful satin scrunchies to give it a more retro vibe. I leave out a strand or two to bring out the wow factor.
You can obviously touch up on your accessories according to your preference.
I am quite confident that you’ll love this hairdo in any way you accessorize it.
Sophisticated Queen
Short bobs are always trendy. So making a short spring twist short bob hairstyle is actually a fantastic idea.
And you can never go wrong with this one. The chic flair is perfect in an official environment as well.
I have noticed that the key aspect of this hairstyle is to have layered spring twist strands like you would have in a normal bob with a fringe.
You just gotta use different lengths of spring hair. And voila you will have your desired result in an instant.
I can not believe I never tried this one out yet. I was so excited after I discovered this one that I could hardly stop myself from abandoning the article and recreating the hairstyle right this moment. I hope you are as thrilled as I am.
Sassy Goddess
When my clients finally enter their badass rogue era they opt for a hairstyle that brings their inner sassy goddess out.
And I got to admit a side swept spring hair with a buzz cut on the side is a top-notch choice.
I have noticed that the buzz cut provides my clients with additional self-confidence. The spring twist hairstyles are lightweight as well.
When my clients expect the hairdo to give them a whole new look and aura I suggest this one.
It makes my client appear bolder and edgy. I always appreciate the way their faces light up with this hairstyle.
Ready To Face The World
I never got to tie my spring twists or my clients’ ones up in a basic ponytail. It’s mostly because I like my springs to be free and bouncy and most clients can do this hairstyle at home so they don’t specifically request it.
However, when you are late for work and don’t want your short spring twists to distract you with their fun attributes you can incorporate this basic ponytail.
It will help keep the free-spirited springy strands all in one place and pushed back.
So get ready to face the world without any distractions from your hair with style and ease.
Trendy Diva
When I see my clients struggling with weak hairlines I opt for short spring twist hairstyles with simple protective styling options.
As this type of hairstyle normally requires less styling and prepping up it’s the perfect solution for your damaged hair.
To give the hair more dimension and make it appear with a bit of flair I braid only the sides and start the twisting from their ends.
And for the rest of the good natural hair, I braid at the root. This takes the hairdo on a different aesthetic with a powerful impact.
I assure you this will make you appear like an intimidating diva.
Short And Phenomenal
I have a thing for short hair. So I buzz cut my hair once every two years. And after a while, I tend to get bored and wish for my hair to grow a little bit faster.
That’s when I installed short spring hair.
It provides me with the perfect length to keep my mind occupied about getting slightly longer hair.
And it’s the right amount of airy. So I don’t feel as suffocated as I do with my long hair.
I accessorize my twists with metallic or wooden beads to make them look funky and expensive and mostly because it’s easier to install them on these types of hairstyles. I hope you try them out as well.
The Bigger The Better
I can not express how madly I am in love with the jumbo short spring twist hairstyles. From its easy styling process to its definitive clear sections, I appreciate every feature of this hairstyle.
As the twists are chunky the sections look more refined and it takes a very short time to achieve this beauty. My clients always left happy with this hairdo.
The whole styling gets prominent and making a fashion statement becomes as easy as a pie.
When my clients returned to do a redo on their hairstyle, they mentioned how they stole the spotlight wherever they went with this particular hairstyle.
Hence, I hope you get to experience your main character moment with this hairstyle.
Side Slick
People will say that side-swept hair is a backdated millennial hair parting. However, you can rock this one with proper styling and still look like a trendy queen.
Sometimes my clients request short and simple designs with a twist that they can detangle easily later by themselves and still slay any outfit. So I create designs with basic micro braids.
I primarily create multiple micro braids and turn them into one. And that braid gets twisted leaving a beautifully refined design on the scalp.
If you are not experienced with delicate protective hairstyles such as micro braiding, then I suggest you take help from a professional.
However, you can try it out yourself as you’ll only need to braid it for about 5 to 6 inches each.
Side Swept Main Girl
If you want your side-swept short spring twist to transform your whole look then you should try this one out.
As far as I’ve seen all you’ll have to do is braid your hair to the side first and then twist it. So that the twisted hair would automatically stay side swept.
This hairstyle gives the maximum feminine vibe. So not only can you wear this one on a date but also it is ideal for the workplace.
I personally haven’t tried the full-side swept short spring twist hairstyle yet. But I am eager to try one out in the future.
CrissCross And Look Like A Boss
If you want to give off a professional vibe, then I suggest you try this crisscross design with your braids. I assure you that this hairstyle will make you admire yourself.
My clients couldn’t stop touching the designs and kept appreciating their reflections. For this hairstyle, I make braids and create a spider-like shape with them, and then twist the ends out.
It helps keep the hair steady on the side making you appear classy and elegant. This hairstyle can elevate any look to a whole new level.
My clients liked this hairstyle mostly because they could avoid heating and styling with toxic ingredients. Hence, I recommend this one.
However, this might put a bit of pressure on your scalp. So if you have a weak hairline then you should avoid this one.
Fashionably Chic
Blonde ombre is a timeless hairstyle that looks fashionably chic no matter the trend. I don’t think I have seen anyone being unhappy opting for this one yet regardless of their hair type.
Hence, I recommend incorporating this hairstyle for my safe-playing clients. And it’s not bad to play safe when in a matter of a hairdo.
I am confident that the subtle yet striking touch of the hairstyle is bound to make you feel good about yourself.
I have done this about a hundred times with my clients and all the feedback was positive. So I hope you have a good experience with this hairstyle as well.
Only Main Character Energy
I haven’t tried this one on my clients but I have tried it on myself. And I have to admit it is one of my favorite versions of the short spring twist hairstyles to exist.
Well, I have thinning hairline and this hairstyle makes my hair look naturally voluminous. So what’s not to like?
I always felt like this hairstyle gave me a retro main girl look. And it’s my favorite aesthetic. So I incorporate this hairstyle the most.
It gives me the ultimate laid-back cool vibe that I desire for my everyday look. Definitely worth the time to try this version of a side-swept short spring twist hairstyle.
Get It Mixed
The best thing about short spring hairstyles is that you can add any colored spring hair to your hair and your hair will look naturally dyed.
It provides you with limitless options to play with different colors. Styling short spring twists with two colors a dark and a light one can elevate the hairdo to the highest level.
I did this styling for clients who wanted to make everyone speechless and stand out in the crowd.
I combine blonde and brunette-colored spring hair to make the hairdo distinctive.
You can try out opposite colors on the color spectrum to make your styling unique.
Simple And Classy
I can not express how much I love people who can flaunt gray hair. It is one of the trendiest colors and oozes elegance and sophistication.
Grey is the epitome of classiness. With gray ombre, you will achieve the graceful look you have always wanted.
I recommend pairing your ombre with matching silver accessories or choosing golden ones to customize according to your preference and occasion to have the most stunning hairstyle.
Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to try this one out yet. But I will certainly get gray spring hair soon.
Sporty And Fabulous
No matter how much I appreciate the lightweight quality of the spring hair, if they keep disturbing your peace by bouncing all over your face 24/7 then you are bound to feel annoyed.
So to look sporty and fabulous and keep the hair in place all you’ll have to do is wear a headband.
Now this headband can be a sporty one or a floral one according to your choice. But accessories help to strictly bind your unruly hair.
I suggest you have at least two or more different kinds of accessories to change things up.
Vibrant Queen
If you want to feel energetic and showcase your vibrant personality, I suggest using the color red.
In my opinion, the great thing about a short spring hairstyle is that I can add any colored spring hair and still look natural without any risk of hair damage due to bleach or hair color.
When my clients want to try out vibrant dyed hair extensions for the first time I recommend going for an ombre effect.
Then it’s easier to change it up if the clients don’t like the color on them.
However, that never happened with my clients as they usually love the colors I recommend.
So, don’t be afraid. Be the vibrant queen you have always wanted to be and start your boss lady era.
Passion Short Spring Twists
I have saved the best short spring twist hairstyle for last. Because if I can go on for hours while talking about this hairstyle.
Whenever my clients want something special with spring twists I suggest this one.
From its distinctive look to aesthetically pleasing springy coils, the hairdo takes spring twist to a whole another level without any hair dye or any other product. Just the styling itself is immensely gorgeous.
I do it mostly on shoulder-length hair. It makes the boxes more well-defined. Then I make jumbo spring twists while making separate boxes.
I create a middle part as well to give the hairstyle a tad trendy touch.
And the spring twists are done while keeping an equal distance among them. Every little detail about this hairdo is what makes it so special and stunning than others.
How To Do Short Spring Twist Hairstyles: Super Easy Step By Step Comprehensive Guide
I got into short spring twist hairstyles as I found them adorable. Moreover, I have already created a bit of similar protective styles like passion twists, rope twists, etc. I found it easy to recreate the short spring twist hairstyles.
However, if you are a total newbie don’t worry. After a whole lot of research, I have made an easy-to-follow guide for creating short spring twist hairstyles.
Let me share my take and some bits of tips that I have found helpful while creating this hairdo.
Get Ready With Your Accessories
Before you set your mind on creating short spring twist hairstyles you need to know about the must-haves. For that, you should already have:
- A rattail comb to make your sections distinct
- Your usual short spring twist crochet hair or pre-twisted crochet hair to your liking.
- Then I suggest some moisturizer and some braiding gel or pomade according to your preference.
- Hair oil to lock in the moisture while braiding.
These few things will help you on your way to becoming a master of making short spring hairstyles.
You can see this video as well to take visual help. Now let’s get started with the steps.
Prepping And Sectioning:
For this part, I wash my hair thoroughly to get rid of any dirt or debris as a part of prepping.
Then I recommend deep conditioning and blown-out hair for a nice and tight braid.
After that, I use a soothing holding gel to set the hair. This will help you hold your hair properly while sectioning.
Then using a rattail comb you should make proper and distinctly sectioned hair preferably in four to six sections and keep them separately using sectioning clips.
The number of sections can vary according to your preference or the thickness of your hair.
Now put oil on the section you are about to braid and you are ready to start the process.
The Braiding Process:
I usually start braiding with the spring hair at the root when my client’s hair is short to keep the braid from coming apart.
However, if you have mid-length or longer hair then you can braid your natural hair an inch or so and then start adding the spring hair.
First I grab the already-prepped section and place the spring hair at the base of the natural hair.
Then I make a three-strand braid with natural hair and the extensions at hand for about an inch. That’s all you’ll have to do for this process. Easy, right?
Twisting And Detangling:
For the last part, all you will have to do is twist and detangle. After braiding for about an inch you split the braid into two.
These two strands would have your natural hair and extensions. Now start twisting them.
You don’t have to put in too much effort. This will keep the braid without any tension and lightweight.
Reach till the end of the braid and create a coil with your finger and simply cut the ends to secure it.
Now repeat these simple processes all over your hair to have your short spring twist hairstyle. I hope you get to try it out.
When you reach the twisting part of the process the braid just twists the hair for about two inches and pushes back and continues this process till you reach the end of your braid.

Special Tips For Broken Hairline
Let me offer you a couple of pieces of advice if you have a broken hairline:
- Always use a leave-in conditioner and gel before starting your braid. Use the products that your hair is comfortable with and the extension that favors your natural hair.
- If you have previous experience using crochet hair, then you might be familiar with different types of extensions. If not, then ask your hairstylist for some opinion.
- Add the extensions and create three-strand braids and secure them at the end. After that, at the end of the braids use crochet to get the spring hair in and just twist the extra hair. It will help your natural hair to grow at its normal pace.
And voila! You will have your short spring hairstyle in no time!

FAQs

Let’s get started, shall we?
Question: How do you make twists less frizzy?
Answer: I use stiff pomade when I initially braid mine or my clients’ hair. It helps make the braids slick, preventing frizziness for weeks.
Question: Are twists better on dry or wet hair?
Answer: I must admit using dry hair while twisting will provide more length. However, I assure you that using moisturizer to make your hair is better for your hair.
Question: How much do Spring Twists cost?
Answer: As far as I know spring twists cost anywhere from $150 to $300, excluding the cost of hair extensions. Depending on hair extensions, you might need to spend from $10 to $15 or more per pack. Hence I suggest adding the hair cost to the installation cost to get the full price.
